Yamaguchien: Sharing the Spirit of Tea Since 1978
Since our founding in 1978, we at the Yamaguchien tea company have provided tea made with care, with the goal of bringing moments of tranquility and an abundance of flavor to your life. We grow our own tea in our own fields without the use of pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers, before processing it and offering it directly to our customers. This earnest approach to making tea is driven by our heartfelt desire to provide you with high-quality tea that you can savor, and that delivers a sense of security and peace of mind. As we have done since the day of our founding, we will always stay true to this uncompromising approach, and endeavor to offer tea that you can feel good about drinking.
Only Organically-Grown Tea Leaves
At Yamaguchien, we have been growing safe, healthy, organic tea leaves since 1991, using absolutely no chemical fertilizers or synthetic agricultural chemicals. We have children, too, and as we know that tea leaves cannot be washed before using in the same way that vegetables can, we have a strong desire to make and deliver tea leaves to you in the safest form possible, for your peace of mind.
When we first began growing our tea leaves organically, there were struggles, including a drop in the size of our harvests. However, we stayed the course, and in 1994, we were granted Organic JAS (Japanese Agricultural Standards) certification. Over the many days we have spent working with care on our tea plantation, we have developed our ability to grow the strong, robust tea leaves that make the profoundly flavorful and aromatic tea in which we take such pride. We are committed to farming organically because we want to provide authentic, 100 percent organic tea, replete with the natural vitality of tea leaves, to as many people as we can.
Growing Tea in Satsuma, a Town Blessed by Nature
The town of Satsuma is surrounded by the Sendai River, which flows from northwestern Kagoshima Prefecture into the East China Sea, and Mount Shibisan, a mountain that has been regarded as a place of mystery since ancient times. The mist that sprays from the river and the warm climate with relatively large temperature variations make this an area that is blessed with the natural conditions for making great-tasting tea. The favorable conditions that nature has woven into these lands produce tea leaves with umami (the "fifth taste," also known as the savory taste) and exceptional flavor.
Yamaguchien's Green Tea
Three kinds of Satsuma Organic Green Tea.
-
Experience Quality of the Highest Standard
Satsuma Organic Green Tea “KIWAMI”
We carefully pick the tender buds of the tea plant that are available only at the start of spring, to make tea with a smooth umami taste and rich, full-bodied flavor. The town of Satsuma is blessed with conditions that create a fresh, invigorating spring aroma and a mellow, nuanced flavor. We recommend this tea as a treat for yourself in those precious moments, and as a gift to a loved one.
-
Harmonious Balance
Satsuma Organic Green Tea “TAKUMI”
This top-quality product is a blend featuring the buds from a distinctive tea cultivar, picked on the 88th day of spring. Buds from the 88th day of spring are known as lucky charms, believed since ancient times to bring a year of good health to anyone who drinks tea made with them. With its rich aroma and perfect balance of sweetness and astringency, this tea delivers a sophisticated taste experience.
-
The Tea for Everybody
Satsuma Organic Green Tea “MIYABI”
Tea leaves picked in early May create a clean flavor with less astringency. With a great aroma, and an accessible flavor, this fantastic tea is easy to enjoy, whether you drink tea regularly or not. This tea can also be enjoyed with ease by infusing it in cold water, making it a great choice even for tea novices.
-
Beauty
High in catechins, vitamins, fiber, and other nutrients, this tea is also ideal as a beauty drink.
-
Relaxation
Green tea contains theanine, an amino acid that promotes relaxation, for those moments when you want to take a breather.
-
Kids
As tea can also be made to be low in caffeine, we also recommend it for children's hydration.
About the Organic JAS Seal
The Organic JAS seal designates agricultural and forestry products that are certified to meet the quality standards established by Japan's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. The requirements include at least three years of using growing methods that do not involve the use of agricultural chemicals, chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or chemical soil conditioners. Additionally, products must not come into contact with any non-organic produce during the processes of production, processing, or packaging. These and other strict conditions must be met in order to receive Organic JAS certification.
